viventura GmbH Coordinator Community-based Tourism Projects in Central America (Central America)

Ventura TRAVEL was founded in order to give creative people the possibility to build up and lead a new venture, focused on authentic and responsible travel experiences. We are a holding enterprise for other tourism companies and through our head office is in Berlin, Germany, we take care of all the across company and international issues concerning all our subsidiary brands.

 

From June on we are looking for a part time (8h/week) Coordinator in Central America for our Community-based Tourism projects.

 

Who we’re looking for:

 

- You have demonstrable experience in responsible tourism, ideally but not mandatory in CBT

- You have a broad knowledge and understanding of development issues/policies and about tourism marketing & sales

- You are passionate about working with the local communities involved in developing tourism

- You bring a positive attitude and you like being the mediator between the communities/local organisations and the tourism industry

- You are sensitive and adaptable to difference in culture, gender, religion, nationality, age, etc.

- You are experienced in networking and stakeholder engagement at all levels

- You are aware of the challenges involved in developing meaningful community-based tourism projects and you are enthusiastic about facing them

- You are able to use initiative and work with minimal supervision

- You are experienced in project design, development, management, and using M&E mechanisms

- You have good administrative and organisational skills

- You live in Central America, preferably Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala or Cuba

- You are willing to travel to the CBT projects

- You are fluent in Spanish and English

 

 

These are your responsibilities:

 

- representation and direct contact person for projects in the continent/region

- developing new CBT-partnerships (own projects, partner projects and joint- venture projects) in the continent/region

- evaluation of applying projects; project selection together with head quarter

- managing the relationship with cooperating CBT partners and submit regular progress reports and financial accounts to head quarter

- engaging with CBT stakeholders in the Ventura destinations & developing a CBT-network in the continent/region

- implement monitoring, evaluation (M&E) and reporting (monthly) mechanisms for existing CBT projects

- create annual project reports in collaboration with the CBT project partners that include project activity summaries, workplan updates, M&E indicators, barriers to implementation and success stories

- ensuring the sustainability of the projects aiming at developing self-sufficient CBT-products in collaboration with the communities and their representatives

building the link between the communities/the local organizations and Ventura TRAVEL to ensure business viability of the projects

- selection, coordination, monitoring, reporting of volunteers

- acquisition of local/national sponsors

- weekly meetings with head office
